Having done all the usual checks for bearing lift and roughness when rotating (and not found anything) I hope I have determined the fact my front n/s wheel bearing is noisy. Main symptom being a 'wow wow wow' noise on right hand bends. I had it suspended on a wheel free ramp with all four wheels driving and there was a bit of a whine from that corner so as at this time the order is away to island 4x4 for a new hub unit. I have done a few searches and noticed one from a few years back which described the same symptoms so here goes.

One question though for anyone who has done a hub recently is do I have to remove the ABS sensor to pull the hub out? Having done these sensors on a Freelander a few years ago (not mine) I know they can be tricky so it could yet be a trip to ebay for a new one just in case.

Oh and in case anyone is wondering I missed the N in the title. I haven't heard of a 'frot' bearing either but if it got you reading it then I suppose every cloud etc.............

Yes, the sensor must be removed. That was not the difficult part for me. It was separating the hub assembly from the half shaft. This required a pulley because they were rusted together. Using care, you should not require a new ABS sensor. Once pulled, you can turn the hub by hand and you can feel the grinding, cvonfirming that it is defective.

Beware of britpart hub assembly as I fitted one and the car then failed the MOT as there was play in the hub and I had to claim warranty on it .
Removing the sensor is easy just pull it out and when you refit it push in all the way and when the wheel turns it will automatically reset itself.
While you have the hub off check the gaiter on the cv joint and if it is split chances are the cv joint is on its way out as the grease will have leaked out

I recently did mine I just replaced the bearing iv a mate with a 30 tonne press so that helped did my rear last week to. Yes remove the sensor. I got lucky the hub n half shaft came apart nice n easy.

I weighed it up and was quoted £100 for the bearing and 3 hours labour or buy the entire new hub for £200 and fit in one hour. Probably about the same so I bought the hub. Not a Britpart one but the better one. Thanks to all who replied. I hope the sensor comes out ok having been in for 14 years. I shall report back once fitted and hope the noise has gone.

3hours dont know where they get that from took me an hour not including going to my mates to use his press maybe an hour n half i remember tea break
