I just got a price for new tyres on a 300tdi, i need to get the tracking aligned correctly as the current tyres have worn on the inner edge, the tyre fitter, immediately said he couldn't do that for me and i'd have to go to an LR dealer, is this common and if so why?

they just dont have the kit - not that you need much more than a lentgh of string - find a ATS or truck stop place they'll do for for peanuts

ive tracked up many a landy, discos included wi supertracker gauges that most tyre places have wi no probs. dont see what the problem would be unless there gauges wouldnt go on you wheels

Did mine with a tape measure!
Spec is 0 - 5mm toe-in, which you can measure easily that way.
It's a Land Rover after all - not a Porsche.

My tyre man (who is very good) can CHECK the Disco allignment but can't adjust it. I think he just doesn't have the technical knowhow.
My Indie mechanic can adjust them, but says he does it on tyre wear/knowing the vehicle, as "they're all different". So I get the mechanic to adjust if necessary and get the tyre man to check he's got it about right. It's a funny old world. In fairness it (my TD5) hardly ever needs adjustment, and you can tell by the feel of the steering that it's out.
