The other day I noticed the nearside front tyre on my 1993 200TDI is wearing on the inside. I think this is a tracking problem even though there is no drift or wander but my local Landrover guys say not and blame it on roundabouts. Can it be there is a minor problem with the joints etc which is difficult to spot and the steering is to heavy to transmit it?

Tyres were fitted 30th June 2008 at 129069 miles, current mileage 138680 so only done 9611 miles, tracking was done at the same time.

It seems there is a roundabout at every major junction these days from home to Landrover shop I have to cross 5 and that's less than 3 miles.

assuming all track rod ends and suspension bushes are sound, its a tracking issue.
need to wiggle steering and check for slop in track rod ends.
check bushes with bar for movement.
replace worn parts before getting tracking checked / adjusted.

For a quick diagnosis try this. Find a local not busy MOT station. Run it in, explain the problem, up on the lift. In 30 seconds the tester will have a bar on it. He will know almost instantly. Off the ramp, bung him a tenner. Now you know ! Rest of it is up to you, depends when your next MOT is due. Been away from the estury too long to advise you where to go.

Tyre wear from roundabouts is usually the outside of the N/S front. This is particularly prevalent in Milton Keynes where drivers treat the roundabouts as minor chicanes. I frequently see cars with an air gap under the O/S rear tyre! In MK never assume that the car coming from the right is going to slow down!!

I could not think for the life of where that place was. I went to a Bruce Springstein concert years ago with my then GF, later wife, even later money grabbing bitch etc. All it is is F""king roundabouts. Would recommend the hotel in the High Street at Leyton Buzzard!!

It was called the Swan.... some things still come back to you after all the years.. Is it still there?
