Front suspension strut movement

Hi,after having a knock noise on the front left suspension and giving the wheel a good pull there is a lot of movement between the strut and the top mount.
Am i right in thinking i need a new top mount and bearing,or just the bearing ?
Would be great to have all the parts i need for the job before i take it all apart.
Any info and tips would be very handy.
