Front sunroof now fixed then this at the rear one.

After turning a hosepipe on every area of the top of the car yesterday I found a small leak at the front drain connection so I fixed pipe with jb weld and used mastic to seal the cup. This morning I parked the car facing upwards on our drive. Heavy rain today. No water coming out of the front sunroof but a massive leak at the rear one.


I suppose I will have to take the tray out to cure this. Is it likely to need a new rubber seal and are these fitted with the sunroof in place?

Cannot get genuine new seals now, only aftermarket. I'd take it out, reseal the frame to the roof and try a new seal. I left the glass in but opened them half way back and the seal went underneath quite easily.

Sorry, no idea on that one. I did mine a while back and managed to get genuine ones. I understand an advert on ebay seemed to hint at genuine ones with a picture taken against a genuine wrapper but it didn't specifically state if they were or just OEM / aftermarket. Not sure if it's still listed or not.

I have ordered an aftermarket one locally and with a bit of luck should be in tomorrow.

Has yours not got drain tubes on the rear sun roof the same as the front?

I take it that your leak is via the glass seal and no the frame seal, which will require the removal of the sunroof.

I have now seen water leaking from the rear of the front one now so have ordered a pair of seals online instead.

I didn't know there were two seals. I thought I would take the sunroofs off and reseal the frames with sikaflex 291 and replace the glass seals as well. I would lioke to reseal the frames on Sunday but won't get the glass seals on time. Can I reseal the frame with sealant on Sunday and replace the frames then replace the glass seals when they come with the sunroofs already fitted?

1.5mm plate, pair of joggling pliers and a welder would fix that

If I ever have the misfortune of sunroofs then I'm going to bond polycarbonate over the top so they let the light in but not the rain

Mine certainly has drain tubes on the rear sunroof as well as the front? (2003 Disco 2)

Drains on the front of both sunroofs but no drains at the back of them so if you are facing up a steep hill the drains don't seem to help.

Yes you can, but removing the glass first makes it lighter and easer to fit the glass seal, so just undo the... if I remember correctly 14 screws and push or pull upwards, and then remove the remainder of the old seal which is just a foam material. I repaired a mates sunroofs years ago some of the nylon runners were broken so wouldn’t close probably, so the front had to be repaired and was removed, when replacing a thin 8mm or so be of sikaflex was run and the frame fitted and then the screws tightened evenly pulled it down and with the mess of Silkaflex squeezing out over the roof.
The rear I sealed externally with 5mm bead, just enough to fill the gaps, and done slowly around the frame edge and it looked good and hard to tell, great stuff that Silkaflex.

That correct, look a the sunroof design and you’ll see why they are at the front only.

The drain tubes for the rear sunroof are behind both rear light units on my 04 D2. Tube runnig downwards on the left. Other tube with bend is axle breather.

Handy to know. The problem is that they drain only from the front of the tray and facing upwards on a very steep hill water will run back and not reach them. Even though K haven't fitted the replacement rubber seals, I haven't had any more water coming in...yet. There has been quite a lot of rain as well - fingers crossed.
