Disco 300 Tdi ... front prop fell off, well, rear UJ and sliding part, on M62 ... sourced a second-hand one to replace and tried to look at it today. Pics (taken after I'd removed the 'good' flange nuts) show damage from prop flailing arond at 65+ ..., pretty minor I thought really, though the footwell is a tad dented and is slightly holed at the crease! UJ appears to have lost it's grease nipple, as has the prop outer, which I think let water in which (obviously) did the damage.

Anyway, front prop I got from a friend is also nackered .. so have ordered a new one for now .. cheapy Paddocks as we're poor, but I've driven the Disco in Diff-Lock with just the rear prop on so in 2wd only ... ;)

So to my questions ..

1. How robust is the centre difflock?

2. Would it pass an MOT without the front prop?

3. Other than possibly accelerated wear, is driving in 2wd likely to cause lasting damage in short term or long term to the difflock mechanism/gearbox?

I only really plan to run it for a week, road only, no playing etc and no towing, so I'm thinking it should be fine, but wondered if others had also done this and suffered from it.

Cheers.

It'll be fine for a week or 2 if you take it steady. Robin drove his around for a couple of months. and be careful on the roundabouts. Can't see it been a problem at MOT Loads of Gaylanders do it.

Thought so, cheers Red .. ;)

Don't intend trying and speed records or hill climbs, so we thought it should be OK .. and if a Gaylander can do it ...
