Hi,
Looking for the fault in my front heated screen, now all the usual have been checked, earthing, relays & fuse's,,,,but can i ask those in the know,i press rear heated and i get a pronounced click on and a click when i press off from underneath the driver's seat but when i press the front heated screen there is no click nothing, little orange light goes on but no click, is there something not right underneath the seat? as relays and fuse's are in engine bay or am i wrong again, yet again my thanks for all help..............

I'm assuming the click under the seat is from the BECM switching the screenheater on. Is this a new fault that has developed or one discovered on a car new to you?

My 1997 model has fuses alongside the drivers seat

not sure if the BECM does windsreen or if there is another electrical gizmo that does it.

Will have a poke through RAVE later and let you know if no one else hasnt got you sorted

Pronounced click fuse number 12 heated rear screen in the owners hand book,f**** thought i was on to a winner, never mind,no need to respond to this thread mind you, if anyone has any other idea's about getting the screen to work let me know,,,,,,,,,,,

The rangie has always had a pronounce click on the rear heated, relays in engine bay are new as is fuses even to the point off touching them while having someone turn the switch on and off and feeling the relays go on and off, there are no signs of broken wires in the screen itself, front screen wireing checked at the weekend,at a complete loss now

Hi,continuity spot on no pro's on either side even have taken terminals off and new put on and soldered.

I've got the same problem with mine. Where did you do the continuity check (ie where are the connections?) What sort of resistance would one expect? Presumably somewhere between 0 and infinity, but a rough value would be helpful! Are there two circuits in there, or just one?

I thought the elements were embedded inside the glass, not printed on?

Hi,continuity check done by removing wipers and arms remove plastic strips on either side of window 4 screws just under door seal warning mine were rusted so best screw drivers there then you go on to remove plastic strip at the bottom of window screen, watch that as its held on with about 12 silly clips, then you go on to remove the grill which hides window motors there is about a dozen screws to take off there best to do this as the earths for the heated windows are in the centre, another rangie owner had a bad earth he cleaned it up and lucky for him his worked after that, continuity test done by setting test on continuity stick one probe in wire with plastic cover running from drivers side window and one on the earth wire coming from centre off window if it goes beep you have continuity,do the same with the other side (two heated screens)or if you do not have a beep, then it should read 0,if you have continuity, then try to put everything back together its a hoot trying to get that plastic strip back on just under window screen........hope it works out for you let me know how you get on

Cheers for the info, I'll have a go. I don't know if it's possible for the elements to short together, but if so then a continuity check wouldn't tell you anything. Surely we need a value for the resistance of the element to tell whether it's shorted or not. A straight beep tester will just tell us that it's not broken...

Anyway, I'll have a fiddle and see what I can find.

Cheers

ANOTHER find door mirrors they do not demist, supposed to work all the time say's handbook,no fuse for this !! Yet again can anybody tell me how to fix this,or is it buy new there IS no fix, this is endless,i have another question but one will keep that for later..

My mirrors no longer demist either. Checked out the wiring diagram in Rave and you're correct, there is no fuse.

The heating element is powered directly as soon as the ignition is turned on. After getting this far I assumed the elements had failed and left well alone. The mirror glass can be very expensive, especially if it is the type that links to an auto dimming rear view mirror
