front door wont open

hi.
please help

just replaced my front passenger lock spring. refitted everything, shut the door and went to test it by opening and now nothing i do will get the door open. please help.

disco 1 1993 2.5 tdi
 
Wind the window down, remove the window rubbers/trim and that might give you access to the lock mechanism/rods etc with a long piece of stiff wire. I haven't done this, but it's what I'd be trying.
 
Take the door card of the OTHER door off and have a good look at how the mechanism works, especially unlocking then opening. Then pull or push the relevant levers on the new handle.
 
So you fitted a seized lock? The only hope now is to get the hinges off the door. To remove the hinges, you'll need to remove the wing, and for that you need to open the door!!! Might be worth pricing up the relative cost of a wing vs door, and cutting the wing off to gain access to the hinge bolts (which are Torx T40). You will still have issues because of the shape of the striker catch, but might be able to wiggle it off and unseize the lock at the same time.

WD40 is ****e for unseizing stuff, PlusGas is far better .. ;)

But I don't think it's seized I reckon it's the striker in the wrong position and simply won't allow the cam to turn to release it .. had it on a different car .. so door shuts, all locks/levers etc work, but door isn't opening. You could try someone holding the door handle in the open position and someone else using one of these

prob end up cutting the door off. got all the bolts undone from the lock to the door hoping it would release but no luck. got a mechanic friend looking at it in the next few days but if that fails it will be cut off and new door time. gonna set me back £50 prob from salvage yard and it will be wrong colour. :doh:
 
do you think with the right tools , instead of cutting the whole door off could i cut a hole in the inside if the dor and cut part of the lock off to free up the door. then would jsut need a new lock. Any ideas?
 
Brute fore and ignorance would be my approach. 2 people, one outside holding the handle open, one inside kicking the crap out of the door, can't do any more damage than cutting the door off.

IMO with the right tools and enough stubborness u could do/undo anything made by humans;)

If its misaligned then I don't know why it closed so easily, but won't open as easily. If you really forced it closed then maybe. I still think there's something not right with the new lock you've fitted. After all, you replaced one with the other, its not like its in a massively different position to the old one. Slight misalignment wouldn't prevent you from opening the door, just make it harder to push open (but it would).
