hi
i need to remove my diff to weld up a hole in the front of the pan.
when i am told I could remove the trackrod and split the axle at the swivel ball, what exactly are the bolts to undo?
help!

undo the six bolts holding the swivel onto the axle case. pull the hub and halfshaft out complete. you will also have to disconnect the brake hoses.

Careful of the oil seal too, easily damaged.

It's easy enough taking it apart, but re-assembly is a 2 man job really.

Think about replacing the swivel seals while you're there - they should just slide over the ball flange.

Hi,

No need to pull half-shaft all way out to remove diff, so no need to split hydraulic system. Difficult bit is driving to the welder with dangly half-shafts. Best not to try this.

.........unless you need to replace the ball to axle gasket 'cos it's gonna break up when you remove the ball....
