Front crankshaft pulley.

Evening all,
I have had a small leak from front crank pulley since owning my 4.6 thor RR and have now decided to replace the leaking seal, whilst having a closer look this week i noticed that there is a small dished shape piece of thin metal that sits behind the pulley, i have had alook on rave but it does not show this, could someone please advise me as to what it is and what it actually does?
