I have a front clear wind screen on my RRC but is not working. Check all the obvious stuff but no luck.
Would a stone chip affect the whole wind screen? Any other thing to try?

My '93 Classic had a Heated Front Screen, and that was chipped to hell (luckily all out of the prescribed area!!) and it still worked....

Check fuses, Check relay and Check switch....Check for power to relay, and cehck for power to screen....

I have known that some less reputable windscreen replacement technicians oftentimes don't bother reconnecting the plugs as it can be a bit fiddly....

Many moons ago with my first P38, I had the screen replaced and me being nosey was watching and seing how it was done, as he was putting the screen in, I asked if he was going to connect the heated screen element, he said he wasn't going to bother as it was a bit fiddley and he had another job to go to...

I hit the F***ing roof, got on the phone and demanded another technician to attend that will do the job properly and if they didn't have one to go and bloody find one in the next hour.....

1.5 hours later, the screen was in and working perfectly....

As the weather changes it reminded me that I have a strip about 3 inches wide that does work and nothing else.
So some power gets through but the rest? Is it in sections or do I just need a new screen?

On a P38 it's in two halves and considering the power it pulls I'd imagine that the classic is the same. That would mean that one side isn't working at all and the other is partially knackered.
You will need a new screen but you'd do well to check the electrics right up to the connector to the screen so that when you have the new screen fitted you'll know that it should work. The heated screens for these can often be faulty before they're fitted, everything from manufacturing faults to the fitter damaging it in handling.
If you have a new screen fitted but can't test it immediately or it doesn't work immediately note this on the fitter's paperwork so that you can go back to the windscreen company if you need it re-replaced.

Mine exactly the same, a 1 inch strip that clears, thats all, so will look for obvious, if not, then replace.
