Hi. Got problems with the front brakes. O/s front is getting very hot to the point were its smoking. Reading some thread here about sticking pins etc. Not sure how much damage has happened to mine because I'v only had a few weeks now. Going to change the disc's and pads and thinking of replacing the O/s brake caliper. Will I need to replace the N/s ones as well ?

Cheers

You should change the guide pins first and see if that helps before replacing the caliper. The seals on them perish and allow water in which causes then to seize into the caliper. You can get replacement guide pin kits on flea bay and there simple to fit. If the pins are seized use loads of WD40 while holding the caliper in a vice and gently free the pins off, don't go to heavy handed as I have seen snapped ones before and there a bastard to get out. Better doing anything to do with the brakes in pairs for peace of mind so do both sides.

Thanks for the info. So, first guide pins, gaiters, pads and disc's ?

when working on brakes allways do them in pairs front or back ,before getting parts see whats seized ,undo 2 x slide bolts and check to see if it slides,if both do there allright, check piston with g clamp etc if doesnt slide smoothly refit order new

I had one sticking, first time the garage boys cleaned it up and it was ok, second time it was the piston that was seised solid in the caliper. The only solution was a new caliper at around 120 notes!!! not cheap!

Yes, not cheap are they. Managed to get one today for £54.00 + disc's at £13.00 each + a set of pads at £20.00 + guide pins at £10.00 set + brake fluid £2.52 + brake bleeding kit at £9.50 + a brake pipe clamp £7.40 + VAT + delivery. Plus, it needed taxing to.
Staying in this weekend:(
