Front Bulb Upgrade!

All many thnx for browsing my post, can anyone please let me know what bulbs are in the front of a 2004 L322 Vogue as I would like to upgrade them for new. Mant Thnx,

Depends if you have Bi-Xenon's (HID) or not...as some are Halogen and some are HID

D2S (or is it DS2??) for Bi-Xenon

They are hid I wish to know the side, fog and indiactor bulbs before I take the damn thing apart.

Side are 501 capless. Upgrade to 5050 can bus led.

As you have HID front lamps, what would you upgrade too??

Standard OEM HID bulbs are 4800k (D2S I think), which gives a yellowish tinge to the light. You can upgrade to 6000k bulbs which gives a crisp white light, or even 8000k bulbs which are slightly bluish colour.

The other main beam bulbs are just halogens (H7 I think), only upgrade is to get Osram Nightbreakers (expensive though). LEDs for the main beams don't give any extra light, but will look whiter compared to halogens.

Fogs are halogen bulbs, same as main beam bulbs, so same as abve.

Side lights are 501s, so go for canbus error free leds.

Indicator bulbs can be upgraded to leds (easily if you have the orange lenses on the indicators).

All in, it won't cost too much and makes the older L322s look much better IMO.

Only down side is the 'disco style' light display when you first start the vehicle, as the LCM ecu does a test of the bulbs and the leds will flicker briefly (due to less voltage needed to illuminate the leds and they react faster than ordinary filament bulbs)

i have changed my sidelights to canbus LED which i think look a lot better and i opted for osram nightbreaker main beam which are ok but not as white as i would like but still good, how much better than standard halogen i wouldnt like to say as i fitted during the day. i tried them at night and they are certainly good but didnt have the original to compare to

The pic of a single headlight unit is actually the osram main beam but the iphone camera dimmed the pic to allow for excessive light i think which shows the colour difference between the standard xenon dip beam and osram main beam.

i may be tempted to get an LED h7 main beam bulb set but have seen some with fans which wont fit and some without which i am unusure how effective they would be

You want to up grade HID lamps so you can blind more people, well done that sounds sensible.

who is talking about upgrading HID lamps?
the main beam are halogen, and for that point who is talking about wanting to blind people ?

OP says HID. HID lamps should be banned they are a bloody menace on the roads. The standard lamps on my P38 are more than adequate. Unless you want to go flying around on unlit country roads like prick that is. Yep he does say upgrade but to new. So misunderstanding. If he had said want to fit new bulbs instead of up grade maybe no misunderstanding would be possible.

i would agree that certain lights fitted to new cars are totally blinding even on dipped beam and i cant comment for the OP but i dont intend to do anything like a prick if i can help it, i certainly dont fly anywhere in my range rover.

personally i was just looking to improve the look and as i live out in the sticks make it a little safer to drive maybe

Could always wait till Aldi or Lidl have got there headlight bulbs on offer, £4.99 a pair for 30% brighter xeon, far cheaper than I can get from the factors run them in mine and do make a difference.

Hmm, might get a set of those Nightbreakers now, they've come down a lot in price since I last looked.

I'm not into blinding other drivers, just getting a slightly better light colour (whiter as opposed to the yellowish tinge) which is ideal for me as I live out in the sticks and we don't have street lighting, white lines or cats eyes on most of the roads I drive down. In fact it's useful when you're driving down a narrow B Road in the pitch black to ba able to see a bit clearer, spotting a deer or a badger sooner on these type of roads means you can brake to avoid it, instead of damaging your vehicle and injuring or killing some poor animal.

IMO, what's worse that the new white lights (which aren't really that bad) are the PITA's who don't have their headlights correctly set up (i.e. one headlight pointing at the road and the other pointing directly into your eyes as you approach them), they're the ones that effing blind you.

I'll try and post a pic at the weekend of them from inside the car when it's pitch black down one of the many lanes near me, how much that will show you I don't know but as you say quite a cheap upgrade.
