Front brake pads

Hi there, just a quickie, is there any major probs in fitting new pads to a auto td5, mine must be due to brake fade. checked the prices of replacements now, from £19 to £55 at LR

Hi i ask'd the same question a while ago heres how you do it. Jack up car, take off wheel, put the weight on axle stand use your choks if youve got them or leave it in gear , remove the two bolts holding on the caliper remove the caliper,slide out the old pads push new pads back in.There are 2pots on the front caliper and one on the rear these need to be pushed back in to the caliper in order to slide back over the new pads and the disc,if you dont have the correct tool to do this i did it like so,i used me claw hammer's handle and placed it through the caliper and with a hand holdingboth sides of the caliper and hammer put enough pressure on them tosqueeze them down. once youve done that replace the caliper,bolts,wheel and repeat.i never did any thing like this before and found it easy to do.
 
why thank you for the info, ordered the pads online as they are a lot cheaper, will tackle this soon. done the job on my previous car but thought the agricultural nature of a Disco may be different.

Well, maybe because this is the most (and maybe the only) easy job you can do on a Disco 2. You will see when you'll do it. On the other hand, if i'm not mistaking, the brake pads will come with fitting instructions.

If the discs are not badly scored, cracked, they don't wobble (so you can feel the brake pedal "pumping" back when braking - unlikely for the vented brake discs) and their thickness is not below 22 mm then they don't need changing.
 
Have some 'copper grease' handy for the back of the pads. (NOT THE FRONTS) put a little smear on the back them and on the face of the caliper piston...this will help to prevent your brakes squeeling once all assembled.
