I've just had an MOT in the UK (I'm in Frogland) and they had an 'advisory' that the pads were down to 3mm - no big deal.
However, when I went to check my pads I couldn't get to 'flip' the caliper so I could check for myself. Am I missing something, or does it need a bit of welly to pivot it up to be able to remove the retainer springs?
