Hello Guys.. I have front brake grumble:confused::eek:

So ive fitted brand new calipers & pads.. still got grumble? so i let my local
landy garage take a drive..(the boss) he reckons its the ABS modulator playing
up!
So, i fitted a new abs modulator, replaced brake fuid & bled them.. yes you've
guessed it... still got grumble?:confused::mad:

Now, imagine your slowing down to pull in the side of the curb, and your lightly
braking, this is when it happens, i get this grumbling and the peddle moves under
my foot at the same time? (its difficult to explain really)
It only happens with very slow speed, under 10mph? other than that, they work
great.. really good at any other speed!

Any ideas chaps.. Chaser.. MHM.. Chromi.. Ming.. cluchdust or anyone
else.. :eek::doh:

Hey'up Chaser.. how are yer buddy;)

I forgot to say.. i also replaced the disks (Mintex disks & pads) the old disks un
calipers were nackered anyway..
But the brakes are spot-on apart from this odd gumbling noise at very slow speed?

Do the pads have the stick on backing material or shims? if they don't have either then it could be that.
Other thought is the pad surface may have glazed up a bit so you could rough up a little with emery.

They do have metal backing (shims) i fitted these a few days ago, but i had the
same problem with the old calipers & pads?

Dealers said, the only thing is to do a full diagnostic.. which will cost £150 to
start, depends on how long it goes on before they find anything, could cost 100s..

Ah right so it was present before renewing the brakes.

Are you thinking the grumbling is coming from the abs modulator? Hence the pedal movement.

Had similar banging when pulling up at junctions. Can be a faulty/cracked reluctor ring.

rekon av got the same problem with mi disco.it dont do it all the time, but wen it does it feels like the brake pedal is going up n down slightly as i'm pressin it.

When this happened there were no warning lights or fault codes, it just seemed to be activating the abs during low speed gentle braking, didn't happen at higher speeds.

Thats it!! yep.. peddle goes up & down slightly then settles!

Do you have any noise coming from the front brakes at all..

Hey Chaser.. Wot the fulks a reluctor ring?

Ive replaced the ABS modulator and still getting the same grumble, but, like you
i dont get any warning lights or fult codes..

Got the exact same problem with an auto 2001 TD4.

The explanation given by a mechanic was that - since it was an auto - when the car is coming to a stop, the engine pushes forward, thus activating the ABS.

Not really a problem, since it always stops on time :)

Yes, and what the fook is a reluctor ring?

Cheers

The Reluctor rings look fine... could it be the sensor? although im not getting
a warning light come on?

I disconnected the sensor (on the front r/wheel) and went for a drive, the brakes worked fine.. no grumbling??

As i say, could it be the sensor

A failed sensor should give the 3 amigos. What about the air gap? refit it with the minimum gap possible between it and the ring and see what happens.
