Hiya folks, I've got a 2005 freelander petrol with problems! Intermittently it will rev to around 2000 rpm then suddenly drop to about 1200 rpm? If i recycle key it will rev normally for a little while but then do it again! There are no lights on the dash regarding this problem but i am also getting intermittent 3 amigos coming on now and then, im tipping the 3 amigos is possibily wheel sensor or brake switch but the intermittent rpm problem is my main problem and im out of my depth im afraid, could it be a sensor problem ie MAP or 02 sensor? Theses sensors arnt cheap so i dont want to be wasting my cash changing sensors that dont need changing. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks Andy
 
Is this revving problem only when it's supposed to be idling?

The 3 amigos need a diagnostic read to ascertain the exact issue.
 
The engine idle speed is controlled by the Idle Air Control Valve. This opens and closes in response to demand on the engine at idle, so it can maintain the normal idle speed. However the IACV can get gummed up with goop and or corrosion. This often results in erratic idle speeds, and sometimes happens when driving too.

So a strip and clean of the IACV is the first place to start. ;)

Brilliant thanks ill give that a try just as soon as i find out where the IACV is on my freelander.

Problem sorted now folks, turned out to be faulty throttle control sensor. Had me scratching my head for a while and it also turned out to be the cause TC and Hill decent intermittent lights coming on. Dont ask me how but ive tested it numerouse times and it proves to be the problem every time. Thanks for the suggestions and replys. Cheers Andy
 
Yes those do light up when there is an issue with the throttle. Saw that when changed my throttle as the wire did not have enough slack.
