Hi, Sorry... Newbie here.

Bought an old '99 - V reg freelander XDi S-Wagon this summer. Just coming up to 90k, Everythings been going fine. But had some real problems in the snow today. Wouldn't get up a gentle slope and only the front wheels are turning - (Driving fine otherwise)..

Are these things permanent 4x4 Wheel Drive, or is there something I need to be doing ? Could it be a diff problem ?

Any help greatly appreciated....

Yeah, Propshaft is deff present. I just wondered if the propshaft 'diff' was prone to failure...? - No warning lights and TC / ABS works fine

Is the VCU an electronic problem, ... sorry I'm a bit of a green one here ..

Ta for your help ...

The VCU is a fluid problem, read through this - it may help you understand the VCU or confuse you completely. But what I think has happened to yours is the 'viscous' fluid has lost it's 'viscosity' and is only sloshing about rather than heating up and sticking the plates together
