I'm a new member who needs help.

Some of you will be aware of the problem of top end rattle(sounds like a bag of spanners!) on Freelander V6 2001. Anyway after reading some notes on Landyzone I went to the dealer and was told I could pay them 680 pounds and they would kindly fit a new manifold! Needless to say i've not taken them up on their kind offer as yet.
Can anyone explain in simple terms what the problem is, I know it's the bearings for the butterflys but thats as much as I know.
Do I keep pushing the dealer or is there a lower cost fix. Don't think I can stand going out in it much longer.

Any help or info would be great,

Thanks, Malcy

You get butterflys in your belly when the butterflies rattle in your manifold.

Trust me you don't want them in your Disco

The rattle could be a faulty actuator that operates the butterfly valves inside the inlet manifold.
Incidently, changing a manifold is a fairly straightforward job so if you are a little handy just DIY.

These actuators are about £50 each. The problem with the manifold is thought to be excessive oil contamination form the crankcase breather system.

Where exactly that actuator located? is it hard to replace?
