Freelander td4 starts then cuts out then starts up no problem

Hi all was wondering if anyone could help i have a 2006 freelander td4 sometimes turns and won't start then starts and juggers then cuts out then starts fine with a bit smoke but when running drives fine any idea be great please thanks
