Freelander TD4 2003 sometimes doesn't start

Hello... just bought my first freelander but after 248 hours really wish I'd not. I'm hoping you ecperts out there can help me out. The problem I'm having is that that car starts... we have a short drive, park up, but then we come back to the car it won't start. The fuel pump is kicking in, but it just won't turn over. We left the car overnight and then it started again first time.. again, have a drive out and exactly the same has happened.... I've read a few items with similar problems, but they all appear to be old postings or on older models... Does anyone have any good advice?

if it doesn't turn over then would be looking at starter solenoid, ignition barrel (been a few faults attributed to them), starter connections and so on.

maybe an immobiliser fault, but wouldn't think so.

As stated by optimus prime, Ignition barrel and starter motor connection/dodgy starter motor are the usual candidates.
