Freelander Tailgate Electrics Problem

Hi there,

New to this forum as purchased a Freelander Serengeti 1.8 Petrol 53 Plate a few weeks ago. :) Really do love the car!

Already encountered some problems thou :(

Firstly i have noticed that none of the electrics work on the tailgate, so the following do not work at all:

- Wiper
- Screenwash
- Electric Window
- De-mister

The tailgate itself locks thou when i use the central locking and all lights work (brake, indicator, fogs etc). I have read that when you open the tailgate the window should drop a little to allow the door to open, mine does not do this as the electric window doesn't work. So when I close the tailgate I have to push the window down slightly so the windows goes under the lip then have to slide the window up slightly by hand to make sure its shut.

Also the rear left electric window doesn;t work either - I can hear the motor making a noise when i press the switch but the window doesn't move at all - so i assume this is just a motor problem?

The other issue is the rear right hand door central locking does not lock when i use the key fob - so all doors lock apart from this one. So currently i just put the lock down before locking it with the fob - this just means when i unlock the car i have to use the interior handle to open the door.

So can anyone help with suggestions to the 3 above items?

Thanks in advance!

Have you checked the earth for the rear ? If all the electrics are out then that is where I would start, then there are I believe two fuses. Also you could try disconnectng the battery for 5 minutes, then reconnect, this apparently resets a a few things, it will definately try to lower the rear window when reconnected.

Window not opening ^^ what tiny said. or possibly the cable has come off the runner/ wheel/ guide

Central locking, look on ebay for a replacement solenoid, just replace the unit.

Hi Daniel
Sounds like your cable set up has failed completely for the rear window (new sets available on ebay) After installation of the new cable set you will have to re-callibrate the window mechanism. There is advice elswhere on these forums about the sequence to do this, It is a little bit tricky and requires lots of patience. A thorough check of electrics will also be required and note, there are two sets of relays behind the rear offside paneling and also micro switches in the door/tailgate handle.(this last item is often faulty).
