freelander tail door

Could any landrover expert please advise me how to go about with the following:

The latch of the tail door lock does not release. The window goes nicely down when I pull the handle but the latch stays.

How can I reach this latch without destroying the tail door or the inner panel?
How do I check the electrical connection?

Does it feel the same as if it were still locked?

Can you hear the solenoid when you unlock off the fob? My first guess would be a fuse if not?

Isn't there a micro switch that clicks when you pull tailgate release slowly?

Thanks but the fuses have been checked.
When I pull the handle, the window comes downs an inch or so and some noise can be heard but the latch doesn't move.
Is there a way to move it manually? or do we have to destroy the inside panel?

Disconnect and reconnect the battery, the back window will go down fully. I am not sure it will help you to open the inside panel or not.

I feel your pain am here in sunny Barbados and have the same problem with my 1998 freelandertail door since Boxing Day.....still trying to resolve without going tothe DEALER PIRATES........

As my last post, have u checked if you can hear Micro-Switch click when you pull tailgate handle very slowly and release it,it's called the TAIL OPEN switch,this sends an earth signal to CCU by closing the switch contacts, the CCU then sends a signal to lower the window slightly then after a predetermined delay allows t/gate door to be opened, so it could the Lock motor,the wiring or the CCU. The 2 wires at switch are ORANGE/BROWN and BLACK. You might have to check circuit continuity with a meter.You don't say what model you have, this info is for Freelander I by the way, Good Luck.

I've had a similar problem (posted earlier this evening) and managed to open the door by removing the near side rear trim to get at the wiring loom connectors and energising the lock motor by flashing 12V on the purple/blue wire gently easing the glass out of the top trim - that left me with a problem of getting the glass down...
At least once the door is open you can remove the tailgate trim without wrecking it and you might find you have a 'simple' micro switch problem!
Thinking about it - after removing the side trim you can swap the relays - there is one for the lock and one for the window - then if the lock operates but the window won't drop then you've could have an easy and low cost relay replacement to do!
