when yu change - take care with the top joint, coz they are prone to turning - i think they take an allen key in the top, to stop them spinning, but it is usually full of crud. Clean it well before trying to undo it - and liberally wd40 it.

Tatooboo, I'd concur. Sounds like the drop links.

Put car on full locks and Grab hold of each one.. easy enough to spot just in front of the shock. if it moves or rattles change them. I say them cos i'd recommend doing the two together to prevent upsetting the roll bar and handling.

Roll bar bushes are a pain to do (little room and rusty bolts= lots of fun and bloody knuckles) but worth while if you've got access

Enjoy....

Can the drop links make the car shudder or shake when they are weared out?

Coz my freelander got the shakes but not in a good way and i've checked driveshafts and wheelbearings but can't find the problem...

check VCU, propshafts, rear diff mounts and tyre wear.

Also rear subframe mounting points.

Took out the propshaft completely. (No difference)
And climbed onto the "enjin bay" and shaked and pulled on the enjin but it didn't budge at all, so I'm thinking it couldn't be a enjin mounting?

The shakeing/shudder is defenitly coming from the front of the car.

I did replace the disks and brake pads just before this started but this shouldn't effect it should it?

Agree with all who replied to this, I checked my anti-roll bar central position and found clunking caused by about a 1 inch movement of bar to o/side, causing it to foul suspension strut and actually putting dent in strut, renewed bushes and drop links ( had to angle grind nuts off drop links as they refused to cooperate ) after that all OK.

If you change something and a fault develops immediately afterward the 9 times out of 10 it'll something you've done wrong. Jack the vehicle up and check everythings ok.

Exactly my thinking aswell... :(
I changed it the evening, drove to work the next morning everything okay, drove home, everything okay, drove to my fiancé and the sh*t started happening.

I did jack it up but couldn't find anything lose, wil have another go at it.

Thanks for the replies ;)

Had a similar problem and happened after going over speed bump (ie when you leave it and wheels drop back down.

Every time you jack motor up it seems to cure it for a few days and i found problem after a few different "experts" had looked at it.

Jack front of motor up leaving wheels to fall freely...check that there is about 1/2" vertical clearance between Track rod end and inner wing..

If less or no clearance you may need to cut inner wing slightly to make some.

Thanks doobreydog
After having my car at a few so called experts that couldn't find the problem I found it eventually myself, the inner CV on the passenger side had it's day. :(
I saw the pic's of your freelander, how did you lift it?
I phoned a few places here in South-Africa and the best reply I got was get a real 4x4...

Have used the kit from Celtic 4x4 Ltd which most of the lads from MAD Freelanders Forum are using although there are a few others including dap/bearmach.

Simple strut top lift works well and is reliable...not heard of any problems with them....Not very heavy so would imagine postage to SA would be cheap enough.

Any problems getting hold of Harvey .. (dont expect immediate reply) then let me have your details and I will forward to him.

Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot doobreydog

Just need to get this getting married thing sorted out... :p

But I will definitely use Harvey's product and post it to SA.:D

Sometimes this country is up to sh..

Have you checked to see if the front suspension strut piston nut is tight this is the nut in the middle of the strut upper mounting plate in your engine compartment. Mine was lose and this did the job, (last thing I checked) The one on the drivers side (UK) is under the coolant expansion tank,
I hope this helps. ps, you will need Allen keys or torx key and ring spanner.

Hey Folks,

Anyone know where I can order sway bar bushings online?
Found the drop links with enough ease, but Freelander bushings are proving more elusive.
Any direction appreciated.
