Hi guys, new member here.

My dads freelander recently developed a fault where it just wont start, engine turns over but wont fire up. However it is quite intermittant. Sometimes it does start but we'll get to the end of the street and the engine will cut out.

its a 2000 plate td4 2.0 turbo diesel

We had a guy come with a machine to read the fault codes and this is what we got.

fuel rail pressure (on tickover) 397
fuel pressure regulator 0.67

p0190 fuel rail pressure
p1190 fuel rail pressure
p1612 diagnosis indicator lamp
p0190 wiring/ecu

Told us to price up a fuel pressure regulator
Fuel rail pressure sensor (doesnt exist according to guy salmon)

Any ideas? We paid this guy 40 quid and arent really any better off

Does that mean what he suggested is probably a complete guess?

Local garage changed the fuel pump after the aka man told em to, but still the issue is there.

Where is the fuel filter located on these? I know on my Clio 182 its in the tank and can't be changed. But I've not had a chance to have a look round the land rover yet.

it's behind the wheel arch of the drivers side rear wheel.

do a search for fuel rail pressure sensor and harness on here first. thousands of posts about the sensor 'greening up' and just needing a good clean with contact cleaner but there was also an updated fuel rail harness that can be bought from the dealer, as i say do a search been covered many times before.

what you haven't said about the problem though is when does it not start? when cold? when warm? both? could also be cam sensor...

Cool, could be worth changing that then.

Are there any other fuel filters or just that one? May aswel do the lot for the few quid that they are..

Hi mate thanks for the reply, the starting is completely random, hot or cold.

However if it does start generally it won't get very far before the engine packs in and needs an aka man to toe it back to the house from the next street.

Just done fuel pressure sensor and harness, and the lp pump on my Freelander, and de egr'ed it!! No dodgy start up and goes like stink now, I had same symptoms as you up till last Sunday when it just refused to start

Is the fuel pressure regulator something worth looking at as well? Can't seem to find much about the regulator.

I know nothing of a regulator I changed the sensor on the end of the fuel rail and the wiring harness! Think you might just be getting confused as to what different people call it bud

Suggest you start at the fuel tank.
I had the same problem with a 2000/2001 TD4 which suddenly failed without warning and just would not start.
When I checked there was no fuel coming from the in-tank fuel pump and I had to replace it.
I live in South Africa, and parts get quite expensive, what with shipping, customs duty and our local VAT.
