Hi everyone.
I recently bought a Freelander privately, when I test drove it all seemed really nice, however, now I am using it more, I have noticed a shudder/judder at certain points.

It drives beautifully on constant and mild acceleration, however, when you ask more of her, between certain revs, she shudders. Its not wild and you can drive through it, you can also drive on mid acceleration right through the rev range and gears and she is smooth. Its only on higher demand acceleration.

Can anyone suggest what this may be, this is my first 4x4 so I dont have any experience.

Many thanks

This is starting to get worse... could it be a misfire? I was thinking a plug or lead? Although, stationary it seems to rev freely without faultering - surely it would faulter whether reving freely or driving wouldnt it??

Andy suggestions would be really helpful.

Does the gear lever shake from side to side when accelerating? If so then the front driveshaft inner joints are worn.

Get under the front, grab the driveshafts and push/pull them up and down, if theres any play then thats your problem

check the prop where it joins the IRD ,mine was doing the same and it was the pinion shaft bearings ,grab the front end of the prop and give it a wiggleif it moves the bearings could be on the way out.

Thanks for all you suggestions.

There is no shudder feedback or movement on the gear lever when this happen. I dont know if its the prop if this would give gear level movement too but I'll have a look at that??

Dont know if this makes any difference but its hasnt been as bad today on a few short trips and with cooler damper weather...!!!
