We love our 1999 Freelander XDI but I have never known a car to be so high maintenance.
Although it is a good looking car it is not very well built.

I have had some answers to my questions but if anyone can help with some others we would be grateful.

1. Knocking when pulling away... Just purchased a Rear Centre Diif Bush to which will hopefuly fix this. I will do if it ever stops raining !!

2. Screaching when pulling away like a fan belt slipping... How can I fix?

3. Rear side windows keep steaming up even when demist is on full blow.

4. Blower does not work on number 1. (2,3,4 all OK)

5. Rear boot well always wet (does not fill up with water as I have drilled a hole in the floor). I have pulled up all the carpets shut the back door and sprayed with a jet washer but still can to see where its coming from.
Although when I puuled up the carpet underneath of the carpet was wetter on the nearside rear and quite dry on the (drivers) Offside rear. I dont think its the rear door seal!

Heeeeeeelp !!

sounds quite normal to me.........:biggrin1:..

4) Blower resistor pack needs replacing, £30+ or contact rezpax.com, much cheaper (£6 - £8 ) Changing unit is a piece of cake once you have replaced the resistors, easy as well if you can use a soldering iron.
5) Known problem with Tail door seal, easy to replace but expensive, (£100+)

You're on the right track of investigation.

New belt, as long as the tensioner is okay. The belt is loosing adhesion to the pulleys due to age.

3. Rear side windows keep steaming up even when demist is on full blow.

Normal on Freelanders but check here for some useful information. Freelander - Heating - Air Con Problems - Land Rover

4. Blower does not work on number 1. (2,3,4 all OK).

Either the switch is faulty or the resistor pack is faulty. The resistor pack is mounted on the blower motor which is almost on the floor behind the central console.

Quite common on a Freelander. Its a cold area and moist air is always driffing past here. Door seals are sometimes a cause but generally there is not a great deal you can do to stop this problem except bore a hole in the floor to let the water out. Advise you don't put your laptop in there.

Ahh, the sound of a Freelander owner!!

Have you got a tow bar? check that the rubber grommets/bungs are seating properly where the wireing goes through floor- if loose- water comes in .you have to pull plastic liner away from the inner panel to get a good look and lift sound deadening matting to

to cure the water leaking at the back door,,

if you look at the door seal you will see where the two ends meet, i found that water was running down the grove in the seal and into the boot locker,,
all i did to cure this leak was cut 1/8 " off the outer edge of the seal allowing the water to run outside,,

hope this helps
