Hi everyone,
I wonder if someone can help me , my Freelander 62 reg auto , has started making a hammering/ vibration when it reach 50 mph .
This noise comes from under the car , like prop shaft or diff or CV?
Is the any common problems with any of these items?
Can I remove the rear prop and still drive normally as 2 WD?
Thanks

Welcome to the forum. I'm sure @Nodge68 will be along soon with all the pointers you'll need to sort this (possible diff/haldex unit as these need the service intervals cut in half of what LR recommend & are often neglected. Do you know if they've been serviced recently) ?

Thanks for the reply.
No, it hasn't been.
Are you able to tell me if I can rhe prop and drive in 2 WD?
Thanks

The PTU, Haldex and rear diff are all know to fail. Typical life for any of these components seems to be about 50,000 miles, as they need 2 or 3 year fluid changes, and LR didn't specify these changes for 150,000 miles, or 10 years. A humming noise is most likely the rear diff, as they're made of cheese, with very poor lubrication design.

You can, but it won't help a failing rear diff, as the diff still turns with the wheels.
Replacement is the only cure. ;)

Hi, I'm glad @Nodge68 has answered your prop removal question as I didn't know the answer for the FL2.
It sounds like it needs looking at sooner rather than later, it would be good to get an independent LR specialists in your area (who's familiar with the FL2) to have a look at it, all the best.
