sorry to tell you but HGF is still happening, mines a 2002 with the latest remote mounted thermostat etc and still it let go at 38,000miles,there was lots more work done than just the cooling and thermostat, there was changes to the dowels on the head and some say that the materials the head was made from changed,i`ve not heard of any post 2001`s (with the mentioned mods) were it as taken the engine though like the pre 2001`s ,the only other mod they did at LR when the head gasket went on mine was placeing the coolent bottle(expansion tank) to the later style with the ratchet cap,it as had no probs since (10,000miles)and it seems to run better than i can ever remember ,go check the coolent bottle and see if as air line cracks just under the cap ,them old style bottles were bad.

Hi,
i have done the new rachet type resvoir ,did it last year ,and ive now fitted the prt ,reading the theory about the thought behind it ,it should help, they fit it to the last of the mgf's and one or two elise owners have fitted it,will keep you posted ,mines done 58k but landrover dealer tells me it's a new engine, head painted black ,so may have steel dowels, fingers crossed

when you fit the modified pipe at the front of the engine be sure to remove the old thermostat from the back of the engine, also the new style header tank and cap should be fitted, they done the mod to give better coolant circulation in the hope it would reduce hgf but as we know this is not always the case,
