Freelander 1 Freelander is more reliable than Hilux

I was stalking a 2005 Freelander here just now on a site that gives all the NZ history for cars - ie you tap in its plate number and its license & warrant info etc is displayed. A generic panel is displayed giving government stats for the type of car, and this is what was displayed for 2005 Freelander...



Looking at the "Reliability" it gets a 5 1/2 * rating. That looks very good - but I wondered if it was one of those ratings where everything comes out high. So with everybody considering the Toyota Hilux to be the most reliable and indestructible motor out there, I looked up a 2005 one, it came back...



So the Hilux only gets a 4 1/2 * rating, making the Freelander significantly more reliable!

Maybe Toyota have been cutting corners of late, they did loose alot of money with recalls and loads of cars were destroyed in that tsunami the other year.

Although, saying that. My mate bought a 2007 highlux earlier this year, and that's been nothing but trouble. Nothing major, but stupid little faults, and bits dropping off.
And have you seen the price of parts for them!!! Now that does make a freelander look like a good choice.

Maybe your mate dropped the fairies off in his Hilux... at the 2nd or 3rd attempt of starting it
