Hi Guys

New here, I'm 21 and have just purchased my first Land Rover, a 2002 Freelander. It's been a long day as I've spent about 8 hours travelling to pick this car up today. Now, this may sound incredibly dense but it was starting to get dark when I was on my way back and I twisted the headlight switch on the left on the indicator bar but had several people flash me, so I assumed I had them on high beams. However I note the switch has only 3 settings - off (the circle) - Dipped beams - and then it seems high beams? Am I missing something here? I realized after a bit of fiddling that there was a switch to adjust the height of the beams? Someone please explain! Would be much appreciated!

Also another question, the front speakers are looking a tad rusty, I'd like to remove the grills and paint them. How is this done? It's a 3 door 2002 Freelander Serengeti.

Thanks

The headlight switch is on the right hand stalk. It's a simple 3 position switch. 1st position is off. 2nd position is for side lights. 3rd position is headlights on.
The left hand stalk is for indicators and main beam control. Lever towards the driver for dip beams. Lever away from the driver for main beams.
The slider on the dash alters the hight of the dip beams when you have a heavy load in the boot.

Thanks! I'll check this out tomorrow, there was no manual with the car and I haven't had any time to play with the car yet, literally picked up, drove home, parked it up. Will have a look in the daylight. Thanks again!

Anyone know about the speaker grills? I saw a post that mentioned the door would need removing? However there was another that said the 3 door versions are just clipped in and can be popped out?

you need to remove the door panel about 6 torx screws holding it on remove door opener handle cover (1 screw) and grab handle (2 screws) gently pull the bottom of the panel out and lift up taking care not to break the plastic lock pin in the guide hole (like I did ) to gain access to the speaker grills then there just either clipped in with bend over pins or plastic studs with small metal nuts on the back cant remember which is which now the speaker stays in the door not in the panel I just had mine out last week and re sprayed them all quick wet and dry 2 coats grey primer 2 coats satin black look like new there is sponge on the rear of the speaker grills so if your going to spray them paint might dissolve the sponge I took it all off and replaced it after spraying hope this helps good luck

Thanks for the tips! I'll see if I have time this afternoon. Just been out to have a look at the headlights but there was nothing on the right hand side, only the window wipers. The only lights I can seem to find are on the left stick, there are 3 positions, off - low - and what seems to be high? (I say this because I was flashed on the way back last night and this beam is also the same power as the toggle you'd use to flash) - so my incredibly dense question still remains, how on earth do I put just normal headlights on??

You twist the light switch all the way, to position 2 and that puts on the headlights. to then switch on and off full beam, you pull and push the light stalk....when on full beam, there is a blue symbol showing on the dash. My freelander lights are set a bit high, so I lower them 1 notch on the headlamp height adjusters, because some people think I am driving around with full beam on.....I am not, its the adjustment......I hope that helps

Thanks, so I'm hoping it's just the height adjustment but when I flick the switch to position 2 there's a blue light on the dash? So doesn't that mean it's full beams according that?

To be honest I get flashed quite a lot when my lights are set on the highest level on the adjuster (dipped beam), I got my mechanic to check this when he took it for its mot and it passed the test fine but when driving they do seem high-yet ok at mot :-/ , I've put it down one level to save any grief.

I often drive in the lanes at night, and at height adjustment 0, the lights are flat and really light the countryside up well.......if there is traffic and the road pitches up and down a lot, I can see that I occasionally dazzle people, so then I drop the lights down to setting 1.

RJ, in the "how to" section of this forum, you can download RAVE which is the repair manual from Land Rover......My version which I bought from E-Bay before I knew about this forum also contains the owners Handbook......Download it, burn it to disk and you will have the repair manual and owners handbook.......Hope that helps. :O)

Yeah all sorted now, I had someone stand at the front of the car whilst I tested it out, have lowered them slightly now, it was also the fact that at a crossing yesterday one of the pedestrians raised her hand to shield her eyes... awkward.

If it's any consolation, she was probably so dazzled she won't be able to recognise you again anyway

really the adjustment for lowering and uping the lights is for when you have a load in the back if you leave them lowered on the mot test then they will fail it as I nearly had done once until I said there is an adjuster on them in the cab.

WEll a previous post was bollox.

all lights except beam adjust are on left hand stick. twist for off-side-main and pull towards you to toggle between dipped and hi-beam.
