Hi
I know you guys on here don't rate freelanders but hope you can help with
this.
I have got a 2001 my td4 auto for the Mrs, bought private ,doesn't look as
if it has ever been off the road, and I suppose the largest hill it is ever
going to descend is the slope into tescos carpark, so this is not a matter
of life and death but the hdc doesn't appear to be working .
Engine , gearbox, brakes and abs are all working perfect and the hdc lights
in the dash light up when the ignition is switched on and then go off as
they should, but according to the manual they are supposed to flash when the
button is pressed and in first gear or reverse and also the button should
light up, this does not happen .
Before I ask a dealer and he tells me I need a new computer or something at
a colossal amount of money, I would be grateful if someone could shed some
light on the problem as I must confess I am at a loss on the subject.
Anything to do with mole grips and a bamford spanner I am ok but all this
electric stuff is beyond me.
Thanks in advance
Charlie

HDC is actually provided by the ABS computer, so if the ABS is happy
then it should be working. It sounds like it's just the switch isn't
signalling the ECU - or it could be the light has done.

It might be interesting to see if HDC is actually working -- double
check the owners manual, but basically: switch it on, get up to 10MPH
in first, and take your foot off the accelerator and the brakes should
come on. If this is OK, then HDC is actually working, and it's just
the bulb.

Karmageddon: n. It's like, when everybody is sending off all these
really bad vibes, right? And then, like, the Earth explodes and
it's, like, a serious bummer.

Hi,
1. Whilst driving along, at any speed above 10 mph, in any gear, engage
the HDC. The orange HDC light should be flashing on the dash. The light will
go steady below 10mph.

2. Find a steep, non busy hill (car park ramp at Tesco's isn't usually long
enough!) put the vehicle at the top of it, stop using the footbrake. Engage
HDC, let the foot brake off so the vehicle starts rolling. As your speed
builds up there should be a juddering as the system uses the brakes to
retard your descent. The juddering can be quite unerving if you haven't done
it before!

If 1 works and 2 doesn't then it could be expensive and electronic!
If 2 works and 1 doesn't then it's just a bulb and you can rest your
wallet.

Hope all's well, Stew.

hi
Thanks for the reply.
Tried it when I got home , neither works, if it is wireing , where the hell
do I start looking.
Sometime a walnut dash has been put in, might of disturbed the switch but
how do you get at it.
Charlie

It's just the cable to your switch that has come off.
It happens to more Freebies.Should be really simple to put it back on the
switch again.
Maybe you can put some Sikaflex on it.It will protect it from water, and also
prevent it from coming of again.
