freelander fuel leak

hi all when i filled my tank up and drove home i could smell petrol and it was driping from under the tank i took it to the garage and he said the tank was ok but on checking the inspection hatch in the rear of the car there was petrol spilled over at the top of the pump any one got any ideas
also should the be a cap on the valve next to the fule line in case it was coming out of that

Must be the seal on ya pump on top of ya tank,yer dont say what model,but if ya take carpet out the back ,youll see a plate ,undo that and ya might see whats up. . .best oh luck. . .

hi ther it is a 1998 1.8 petrol 5dr
i phoned landrover and the say it might be the over flow if i over filled it and it was parked at a angle but only filled the tank to just under the full mark
it not leaking as bad as it was but my god the smell of petrol as you walk up to the car wow
i lifted the inspection panel and there was fuel on top of the tank i cleand and dryed it and went for a drive to check if it got wet wich
i will check this over in the morn

i checked the tank today all was dry around the fule pump so i rocked the car side to side and bobs you uncle fule started to come up on the left hand side of the fule pumpat the top of the black ring that holds it down so thinks it the seal from the pump to the tank orderd a seal from rimmer bros 2.60 with delivery so hope that sorts it out now

quite unusual that it should go [the gasket]. . .

i have a feeling some one has had it off and then poss put the seal on the wrong way round there is to white pen marks at the pump poss some one using for position to line up with

thats whot i was thinking, , ,hope ya get it sorted. . .

sorted the leak took out the fule pump omly to find there was no seal there in the frist place but what a job puting it on the thing due to it being so tight and the fule gage loat and the arm its attachet to what a job can see why some before me must have just went bugger that but all sorted now

Glad yer sorted it northface,its a reet bummer when ya sort out anothers bodge [never bodge on fuel systems]. . .
