I purchased my w reg freelander in feb 05. I love it has room for my work and for the new arrival. My astra van would not do. I have taken back in the first week, exhaust snapped in half. Very rusty. It wouldnt start a month later stuck in busy car park dealer said ring the AA after I got the AA to start it for me DEALER HAD A LOOK AT IT told me nothing wrong with it. I have a knocking noise from rear, a rattle from engine, a leak from underneath, gears are a nightmare sometimes struggle to engage every gear, TOOK IT BACK TO BE TOLD THAT A BUSH IS EXTREMLEY WORN ( only done 2000 miles ) and it will cost me £190 for labour and £12 for part oh and nothing mentioned about the other faults, as I told 2 members of staff and wrote a detailed letter left on dashboard. Dealer had freelander for 2 days to tell me worn bush. warranty will not cover this, dealer unhelpful and I will be speaking to manager in morning. can i do an exchange ? Any tips or sound advice to handle a unhelpful dealer

Hi

You've had the vehicle less than 6 months why don't you take it back and tell the to keep it till they've fixed it. Or tell them you're going to terminate the agreement (provided you have it on finance) or demand a replacement one.

Speak to Landrover HQ and get them involved.

Hi dont know what bush you are talking about but everything is covered by warranty full stop for 3 yrs and then they give 3 months grace over the run out date as long as its full service history go back get your money back,KICK SOME BUTT.! tiga

When was this car registered, as if it is a W reg most of these comments are irrelevant as they are for a new car with Land Rover warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi

You're right. If you purchased the car from a Land Rover Dealer Did you get 6months warranty if not I would suggest that you find a specialist who can care for you car or a good mechanic who knows what they are doing. A good Land Rover specialist will not charge half the labour costs that Land Rover dealers do.

Fog Light Faults where to next.
Replaced bulbs and fuse but the buggers will still not go?

if you go to the gaylander bit you'll see a button fer starting new subject.

use that the next time otherwise we'll think its a prat doing the old revive the old fred bit again.

demand a brand new landrover replacement
go straight to landrover hQ and demand a new vehicle the dealership will loose commission so they are not going to be helpfull at all

And if you get a new freelander it'll only have something else wrong with it!

Unfortunately, you have had the car too long to force the dealer's hand too much especially as you have problems with wear & tear items (exhaust and bush).

The Sale of Goods Act is the relevant legislation here but unfortunately it has some get out clauses for dealers:

"If a secondhand vehicle needs more extensive repairs than seemed necessary at the time it was bought, this does not necessarily mean that the vehicle is not of satisfactory quality. A secondhand vehicle can be of satisfactory quality if it is in a useable condition, even if not perfect. If you have a complaint about the vehicle, it will have to be established that the defects were present when you bought it."

It's definitely worth contacting you finance company to see if they can help (theoretically the car is their legal property and their asset until you have made all your payments) and also writing to the top man at the dealership (Dealer Principal, Director, Proprietor, etc).

Land Rover UK will not be interested in a car this old and that is not covered by LR Approved Used Scheme.

Cheers
