Had the tyres fitted on front, waiting for rear ones next week. I have since noticed an oily smell after 20 mile drive to work (60mph) dual carriage way. I am thinking that the rear diff is under extra strain as fronts are full tread, rear a little in the thin side. I'm hoping that once rear ones fitted, it will stop smelling as doesn't do it on short drive. I figure rear diff is getting hot. Anyone advise?? You think its worth servicing the rear diff?? New seals etc, just to freshen thinhs up?? Ideas welcome.

This thread is reserved for peeps telling us about faults they've had, not asking for help. Having said that, your damaging your Freelander with your current tyre setup. Your about to get a big bill if you continue driving it like it is.

What a idiot change THE FEEKING TYRES you nit wit
Bit harsh, but hey. The rears are being done tomorrow, along with tracking, IRD diff oil change. Rear diff having a service too. Garage only had a pair in stock when the fronts were done (tear on inside wall - so had to be done there and then) - plus, having shelled out alot o dosh recently, funds tend to slim down a bit. SRS light on constantly, Not fussed about that as it's not an MOT fail. Annoyingly the HDC fault light comes on occasionally.

When I purchased my Freelander it came with a vertical line of scratches down both front windows. Apparantly the window seals can wear down exposing some metal. Glass and metal are not best friends :-(

It is possibly a case of new seals and glass if you want to fix it.

my freelander has sufferd head gasket failure,vcu damper failure ,chassis bolt to subframe ,window reg failure,other than that iv owned it for 5 years now, now shes a babe runs very good,im sticking with it

Had ours 4 years, done 70k, its now very nearly 10 years old.
Faults so far
3 window regulators
rear door stay came unattached
fault on wipers
clutch slave cylinder was changed under warranty when we bought it, still on original clutch after 116k.
Passed its MOT yesterday, 3 advisorys, exhaust bracket corroded and 2 tyres
That aint bad for a 10 yr old motor with 116k on the clock !!!!
