Freelander failed its mot

Help has anyone got any ideas for the following; my S Reg Freelander 2.0l Diesel L series has just failed its MOT for excessive smoke emissions

Could be the Catalytic converter not kicking in. Could need renewing

try an engine service and add a fuel treatment additive which are supposed to help

Also a quick motorway run beforehand to remove any carbon from short journeys.

flush the system out, take it it failed on meter test

change the fuel filter and air filter and thrash the freelander down the by pass to clear the engine does wonders to the engine

A big thank you to you who replied, replaced the air filter, oil & oil filter along with the fuel filter & has now PASSED
