Hi guys,

I have a Freelander ES X. It has an unusual bumper like the one on this:

Anyone know why some FL's have these bumpers, while most don't? Is it a special edition? An expensive option? After market addition? Or what?

Also, are those lights on the bumper fog lights or spotlights? They don't look like conventional fog lights. Most fog lights are positioned very low, at the far sides for optimum performance.

Cheers

It's a standard bumper fitted with the optional A frame protection bar, part number STC50413 (not V6), then fitted with optional driving lamp pods. (STC53074)

I quote:

"This soft-feel polyurethane bar protects and enhances the front of your freelander while providing an ideal base for Single Driving Lamp Pods, if desired. Suitable for all models except V6"

"Compatible only with the A frame protection bar, these driving lamps are an attractive addition to the front of your freelander" (Single driving lamp pods, 02MY onwards RHD)

Ok so if I have those lights on, I wouldn't be likely to be pulled over by old bill for driving around with "fogs" on? I'm guessing they could be easily mistaken.

EDIT:

I just asked on a police forum whether I'd be likely to get pulled over if I had those lights on (I didn't give away the fact that they're not fog lights) and a cop replied stating:

MET cop said:
Unless it was foggy, with seriously reduced visibilty....... Yes.

If you drive around with these lights on you will get pulled for dazzling other road users. They are spotlamps designed to work with the main beams, not dipped headlamps.

So basically they're designed to be used off-road only?

EDIT: Wait, did I just say off road? ......Cue the sarcastic remarks from the hippo haters...

You went onto a POLICE forum?/

good grief!!!!!!!

theyre the gay little lights I hate.

Sell that bumper on e-bay ,and buy an old original propper hippo bumber.

I actually like the bumper and the lights. I think it adds a little character to the car and makes it look a little different to your average Freelander.
