Hi, first of all, like to say hi to one and all. I have a 51 plate freelander td4. Last week, i had to have a new crank shaft pulley fitted, and two new drive belts. All was well over the weekend, just driven to work and the orange i think engine management light has come on, and keep coming on and off at random. just wondered if this is tied into the job i had done. Also, there is a white plastic inline fuel filter clipped onto the back of the engine block drivers side, it has a pipe going into the top, but no pipe coming out of the bottom???????????

any advice would be appreciated, so i can take it back to the mechanic who did it.

Cheers.

A common trick on the auto is to extend the gearbox breather with a length of hose and to add an inline filter to the end to stop dirt ingress.
Could also be vent/breather for turbo valve?

Tooki it back into the mechanic this morning, who did the work on it, and he checked through everything he did, with me watching, and it looked to be ok. There is a white plastic inline filter on the back of the engine block drivers side, with a pipe going into the top, but nothing coming out of the bottom - is this normal? Also, above that is a brake type pipe that comes up from the bottom of the block, to the top, then loops round again, like an upside down u, that looks like it should have a pipe on there, but nothing. Just wondering if a couple of the breather pipes are missing!!!!!!!!!

both the metal u pipe and the little filter are breathers and are supposed to be open ended.....nothing missing..... stop worrying....;)

Did you find the reason for the warning light? any fault codes in the memory?

Not as yet, glad they are just breather pipes, taking it into the garage sat morning to have the codes read. Still a mystery. I know its quite an open ended question, but what kind of faults/problems could the code reader bring up? Just looking for an idea as to what to expect!!!

loads . . . .but if its not on all the time ,its saying look could have a problem [its not logged] code reader is the only way :) :) :)

Took the motor down to the garage his morning, to have the codes read, and the only fault the code reader came up with, is code no P1255 Delivery Fuel Pressure Sensor on the fuel rail. He showed me where it is on autodater, really helpful guy, but couldnt give me a cost on a new sensor. Just wondering if anyone had any ideas on cost for a new sensor?

Cough. . . . . . .check fuel filter first as this sounds like a weak fuel pump [low pressure] you got two on your model [could be either but one in tank normally go's first]. . . . . .thats my thoughts hope its simpler than that but i'm a rockit enginear and a clever fooker :D
