I have a Freelander TD4 (2001) and it's recently started playing up. It takes a lot of cranking over and pumping the accelerator to get it started. It seems like there's not enough fuel to get it started, but once its running it keeps going fine.

Is it likely that one of the fuel pumps is playing up?

Cheers

P.S One other problem I have is that once started, occasionally the brake pedal goes rock solid!! However it goes back to normal after a very short time.

More than likely its the low pressure pump thats on its way out, you'll need to get the pressure checked and I'd advise an injector leak test too.

change ya fuel filter first. . .:)

If it was the fuel filter that had clogged, wouldn't it not run at all? The thing is, once it's started it runs fine. Also I changed the filter about 6k miles ago. So it looks more and more like the fuel pump. Is there any way I could check the pump or is it a dealer job?

I'm beginning to hate these cars, so many common problems. (& parts are so expensive!)

Sorry Ming, didn't mean to have a go at you:eek:

Just a bit fed up at the moment. I was driving our other car (Peug.206) to work this morning when the Engine warning light came on! Been one of those days.

I have read the other thread, thanks very much for that. The more I read the more it sounds like the pump.

Thanks
