Freelander Diesel accelaration problem

Hi all
I have a problem on our Freelander where it starts and runs fine and revs up to about 2800/3000 RPM but then starts to splutter and loses power...kinda like hitting a rev limiter. Anything up to this range is fine, it drives as normal (well, as normal a freelander can be !!).

My first thoughts are fuel filter....any others ?

firstly,
aswell as the fuel filter, change the air filter aswell, if it is clogged your engine won't be able to breathe,
also put some injector cleaner in the fuel.

TD4??......Try it with the MAF sensor unplugged. Could also be the fuel pump.

also that boost pressure sensor from a previous thread.

It's pre TD4 (1999 model) and the airfilter looks ok (service about 3000 ago)

Your injection system could be at fault, or the timing of it could be incorrect.

Also check your timing belt is correctly tensioned.
