So if you've been into Anything Goes you'll have read i was almost stranded at B&Q when my slave bracket broke and caused my slave cylinder to go haywire and if it wasn't for Joe (OldIrishWolf) i'd have still been there.

I was wondering how much pressure is actually put on the cylinder from the clutch as the cylinder out of its place operates quite easily, but in its place there's some huge forces involved. Would there be something wrong with the clutch itself if it was putting that much pressure on the slave cylinder and bracket?

When i try to move the small 'arm' by hand that the slave operates, it's impossible to get it move, bar the few centimeters of free play it has.

When the slave was bodged in place, the clutch was working fine bar from it being hard to get into gear due to a loss of fluid from the slave after the piston had been pushed out.

Also, are there uprated brackets you can get or would it be worth getting someone to weld some reinforcements onto a new bracket for me?

Cheers for the links Joe,

Have got both ordered off ebay today with 48hr courier so shouldn't be long before i have it sorted again. Although i'm tempted to take the bracket to a local engineer and get them to reinforce it. Do you think it's worth it?

I was thinking of taking the new bracket when it arrives to get it reinforced so it doesn't happen again.

I'm surprised no one has made uprated brackets that don't bend and eventually snap.

As long as it all arrives on time i'll get it all fitted wednesday night. Then i've got my LHS wishbone and an oil change to do at the weekend.

Cheers for that freelance, do you recommend penetrating fluid like WD40 or GT85 or is it better to grease?

Also, do you know if i should be able to push the clutch arm by hand? I've tried and there's no budging it by hand, though it's not seized, as when the slave cylinder was bodged in place, is was working (not to the extent is should have been).

Freebiker

cant push mine by hand !!!!

I recently bought a new bracket and slave and master - not got round to changing it yet as the knackered slave held in with cable ties is working fine at the moment.

The new bracket does look a little different than the old one

I did actually manage to put some fluit into my old one - with the slave out of the bracket, carefully pulled the piston to it full travel - then took the rubber cap of the master and topped it up

still working - touch wood !!!!

I've been thinking it must be possible to bleed the system, might mean spilling some brake fluid. If it were me I'd give it a go.
Anyway FreeB,how much did the parts cost after?
And your freelander doesn't sound right,it sounds like a souped up impeza, not natural...Good luck with the fitting.

Cheers for the info c13tay, i'm glad it sounds like the clutch hasn't siezed then.

The parts cost me 85Eur in total, including bracket, master cylinder, C clip and postage from UK. They've just arrived at the office now so will fit them tonight.

I take it you didn't see my exhaust Joe? :D

Price sounds about what I paid in UK

the place I got mine did actually say it was "improved" bracket but mentioned this to a chap I know who works at a LR dealer and he didnt know anything about a modified bracket !!! mind you that doesnt count for much !!!!!

Took the parts home from work and got them fitted in no time, all is working good now.

Cheers for the advice guys, and Joe... many thanks for the help on Saturday. Really appreciate it.
