Hi all, I am new to the site, only introduced my self yesterday, but have been learning much from your Forum for a few months. I have a 2002 Freelander 1.8, all done now head, head gasket, bolts, cam belt. one recurring problem left. One of the cam seals keps leaking, replaced it twice now. Any ideas.

Good quality seals?
Are the seals in the correct ends of the cam? Red goes one end & black goes the other.
Have they been installed correctly - not hammered in on a slight angle?
The cam shaft face where the seal sits isn't damaged?
The head face where the seal sits is undamaged?
All the cam ladder bolts fitted - especially at the seal ends - sometimes peeps leave 1 or 2 off - god knows why but there you have it!
You can tighten up the metal spring thingy inside the seal: carefully remove - look carefully and you will see where the ends join - untwist it to separate the ends - nip a mm off the male end - 'untwist' it to get it together again [ that twist will make it tighten itself together when you let go] refit to seal and refit seal...

Thanks for that, mot on Tuesday,if all goes ok there I will replace the seals again next weekend and will have your advice to hand. Love the Freelander, will keep at it. Cheers.

Wouldn't say no to that idea , just so so busy, and that's without animals to feed !!!

Too hot anyway, and the flies would be murder! :D

Just starting to buffer feed a bit here, been a great autumn so far, dryish, mildish, lots of grass, growth is just stopping now, cept on the lawn!

Very little feed value in any grass here due to drought since August , great year for the vines so they tell me
Latest project , Moling in vineyards

Ansum little crawler! :)

Grass was terrible in the summer here too. Drought in May killed the job stone dead!

Then the rain came on in late August, been on and off wet and dry, no frost. Lovely season in Sept Oct and November!

Grass is going over now, but my cattle are hard as nails, evolved for low input, conditions out there would kill a milker or a geet soft Charolais, no worries for mine! :D

Pop off the cam cover and clean the gauze as htr says. Also ensure that the breather holes are clear (poke a wire through).

Also, use OEM cam seals, and put them in dry - clean out the recess thoroughly and ensure that there is no residual oil left there. Should do the job then :)

I have ordered OEM seals, and will follow all of your advice when I get to rthe job next Weekend. I will let you know how it goes when I have done a few miles on the seals. Cheers.
