Hi I’ve got a land rover Freelander2 2010 diesel 2179cc …I’ve got exide premium 77ah ea770 760 which I replaced from a like for like..However when weather especially winter arrives if car is left for a few weeks battery is not strong enough to start the car!….Is there a stronger battery that perhaps I should have?

Hi,

If you left the vehicule for 2 or 3 weeks and you need to jump start it, you be sure that you battery is dead.
When had you replaced the battery ?
Start stop vehicule ?

Lot of unknowns there. How do you go several weeks without using the car? How far do you drive when you do use it? What kind of driving, motorways etc? Has it got stop/start? Is it kept in a garage? Are the glowplugs all working?

It’s an unusual way to use a car. I would get the battery and glowplugs checked by your garage then consider a trickle charger for the battery. Its not very good for batteries to be aloud to go flat, also not good for them to be over charged

Does it have stop-start? If so that battery isn't suitable at all.

77Ah also sounds low, I'm sure mine is rated at 90Ah. Exide are also pretty low down the quality scale, so seldom produce the rated capacity after a couple of years.

My philosophy is always buy the biggest, most powerful battery that'll fit on the tray. If its tall, make sure the bonnet closes without fouling it.

No it’s not stop/start!…..always thought mine was to low!…it was less than a year old…think I’ll get a stronger one…what battery do you have?

I've just checked the spec for the FL2. It looks like it's supposed to take an 096, which appears to have a capacity of about 75Ah, and a CCA of about 750A.
I'm sure mine is larger than that, but I could be getting mixed up with the battery in my old D3.
I'll take a look at mine over the weekend.

Here you go any one of these below will do the job for you.

If your battery is only 12 months old i would take it back and get a refund and purchase one of the above.

Also look to add an extra earth lead from the battery to the starter casing bolt.
