Hi all, new to this so if Ive done it wrong excuse me. I am a caravanner, is it worth and does it make a noticable power differance to my Freelander?
Thanks:)

Hi spiercy,

Also a :welcome2: from me, not being a caravaner myself I have heard but good news regarding the FL towing a caravan (or a trailer). As for the chipping, my MY01 Td4 Automatic has been chipped since November 2001 and both the engine and the autobox do not love the chipping but just adore it. Everything works much smoother. Seems as the extra 30 bhp mine got is what the engine missed and makes the functioning of the box that much better. Good luck.;)

Had my 2006 TD4 Auto fitted with a PSI power box.
Does the same as a remap.
Fuel economy depends how you use it, if you travel at similar speeds then the greater power means you are accelerating for a shorter time, thus saving fuel in the long run.
Use all the performance all the time and it will use more fuel.
Before change 27MPG after change 30 MPG, not massive, but noticable.
Towing a caravan it really makes a difference, before change 21MPG, after 27MPG.
The PSI box has the advantage that you can remove it when your vehicle goes in for a service - so no warranty haggles.

Andy you have solved the fuel problems of the world! Unfortunately its not true. The energy used in accelerating from one speed to another is the same no matter how you do it. With a chip the engine is working at higher temperatures and pressures and is more efficient (Scientific fact). That os why you get increased economy.

A roverron synergy 2 box is the way to go, along with an egr bypass. You'll find the autobox change slightly less smooth, but still excellent & though not an out & out speed machine it is very torquey & shoots up steep hills like they aren't there. Well worth it.

Hello there
Just seen the thread. Got a 52 plate TD4 auto. Before spending any money on a chip upgrade put the auto box into sport mode for towing and use Millers Diesel additive. Mine pulls like sh*t off a shovel. Went to North Wales earlier this month with some very steep hills on the way to the site and back, still pulled at 60mph even up the steepest ones. One more thing Blank the EGR valve off, this strangles the engine at the best of times.

Happy Towing :D:D

Have you owned this from new or has a previous owner done a remap as they are ok but not brilliant in standard form. Agree completely about the egr & the Millers.

The Sport modus will only chase the engine up in revs before changing gears but will not ADD extra power to the engine.

Hi

Had it since 12 months old, no re map, only mod is the EGR blank. As for the sports mode, yes this does hold the revs for longer as Willo suggests, but this is what you need for towing on the auto box as it changes gear to quickly in normal drive mode for towing and you lose revs/power.
I have considered the roveron unit as it genuinley seems to work and if you are pulling a van over 1500kg its probably a good idea. As my wieghs about 1400kg loaded and I keep as much as I can in the back of the car I have not bought one yet, cos I think it would pull the van off it's chasis:D

Cheers

The bypass & millers definitely improve things, & the Roverron is the next level. Go for it, you won't be disappointed, though roverrons instructions about being easy on the accelerator pedal the first time you use it in case the extra power catches you out is a bit amusing. It'd be hard to tune the Td4 to that extreme without serious serious mods.

hi just put a synergy 2 on my 2000 td4 and collected a 1300kg caravan it towed no problem had to watch my speed all the time will be doing egr mod next as it can be a bit smokey but definetlty rover rons box has improved performance

Don't forget the millers, it can help cut dow smoke as well.

sorry forgot to mention using millers as well

Full throttle with the roverron can be smoky, but it'll still breeze the emission test. You seem clued up, so I guess you've also changed your crankcase breather. I know they can cause excessive smoke when they block. Sounds like you're doing everything right & there's nothing wrong.
