My air con light works and it's full of gas but still no cold air ? If I power the compressor direct it works too .... All fuses are good ... Is the cooling fan unit on the slam panel a possible cause of air con not working ?
Rob

You need to establish if the compressor clutch engages when you flick the switch - if not then it maybe that there is insufficient gas pressure in the system or some other fault. The light on the A/C switch is pretty meaningless, just means that there is power to the A/C system but it still lights up even if there are other faults. Suggest you also feel the a/c pipes when the system is running, one should be very cool almost immediately.

Another good reason to visit someone with proper test gear, they will be able to test the residual pressure in the system and then the high/low side pressures when the compressor is operating.

I think that the fan under the slam panel would only be a cause of the a/c not working if you ran it with the car stationary.

Hi ... Yeah the compressor works as it should with clutch etc, have put a replacement pressure switch in too ... Not the whole lot which is all you can buy off Landrover / specialists, which is daft lol
I've had it regassed before and after fitting the pressure switch at my friends garage, I've never heard the engine cooling fans cut in and that's even when towing our 1.5 ton caravan ! There is a sensor inside the air box inside the car behind the dash that could be the fault too but this needs the dash taken out to get at it ( can co it but want to see if there's an easier way ie. the fan control unit)
So in summary it all works except as it should lol
Thanks for your reply

Sounds like the compressor it not working, I think. I have the same problem. Took it to halfords and had it checked and regased, worked ok for about 8 months then jousts stopped. System has pressure and compressor clutch wheel engages but no cool air. It I put a gauge on it the pressure does not rise and the needle just flickers a bit. So my opinion is the compressor is not compressing any more.

The compressor works fine if I power it direct so the compressor isn't the problem I need to know if the cooling fan unit is in anyway connected to the air con because if they're not working ( I don't know if they are ) will the air con work ? I know the gas, compressor, switch etc are all ok

My compressor is working IE The clutch engages and spins but no increase of pressure and I suppose if you have no pressure the fans won't kick in. I could be wrong about that but I think that is how it works.

There's no earth at fusebox relay when the car is running, which there should be as we have checked along side and Freelander the earth is only there when the car is running and air con is switched on

I am having the same issue, just spent £50 on a regas no leaks and pipes are very cold but only a little bit colder coming through the vents, fans are coming on intermittent say 20secs then go off for 20 secs, pump is doing the same, does anyone know if this is right, thanks

it should be a lot colder get under car on the drivers side (UK) at the front lift the removable side panel and get some one to switch on the engine and then air con and watch the air con motor if all of the pulley is moving then it is operating if just part of it is moving then the compressor has either gone or it needs a proper re-gas if you get a proper person to do it and it does not work they should not charge you. also they will check the system out , and when it is up and running you should use it at least 10 minuets a week to keep the gas recirculating.

When I bought my 2004 TD4 facelift the aircon did not work, everything was checked, gas, compressor, sensors and everything looked perfect, then after realising that the canbus control for the aircon is part of the instrument cluster, we swapped out the instrument cluster and hay presto, aircon works

I apologize for bringing up a dead post but it seems like I'm in the same predicament I have been trying to sort out my A/C issue the compressor will turn on if I jump the relay, it does have the correct refrigerate level checked with a manifold gauge set I believe its the cluster I purchased a used cluster to try and swap it out will that work or will installing a different cluster on my early 2003 freelander kv6 NAS cause an issue??
