Further to my previous thread on here and 3 trips to a main dealer my car a Freelander 2 TD4 XS (2012) is still making a strange noise.

The noise seems to be coming from the front and sounds like a creaking type of sound that resonates mostly at 50-60 mph but can be heard faintly as low as 30 mph. It does not sound like engine wind or tyre noise.
The noise can sound like a faint knocking sort of noise that is of constant rate i.e. it doesn't change in pitch with engine revs or road speed.
It doesn't sound like a mechanical sort of noise but more like a noise that is more apparent as wind velocity increases with speed.

I have checked around and underneath the car for loose bodywork and fixings and secured a door seal and reshaped the fuel tank heat shield but I could not find anything obviously loose.

My local main dealer has changed all four wheels and tyres; secured pipes with cable ties; replaced an offside front wheel bearing under warranty but all to no avail.

As you can imagine the noise is getting on my t*** and I am getting increasingly frustrated with the lack of understanding or dealer resolution.

Has anyone experienced similar issues or point me in the direction of a specialist - I am in Aylesbury, Bucks.

regards

Not the same vehicle, but my Transit developed a whistle and then above 50mph a noise like a kalachnikov. Turned out that one of the plastic heater ducts had come adrift and was vibrating in the airflow. A complete dash out job:mad:

Hi
Thanks for your reply. I suspect it could be something like this but trying to persuade my dealer to investigate further, under warranty, is going to be a bit of a task I feel!
I get the impression that they don't get the full hourly rate for warranty work hence the apathetic response!
regards

I would expect the dealer has to justify the time/cost for the investigation or LR won't pay. Obvious things are easier to claim.

Can you film the noise? Can you film it from different positions to try to locate where it's coming from?

I've not thought about filming the noise maybe I'll try and post it on here? So far it seems to be worse on the drivers side of the vehicle although when I have been out with a LR technician I can still hear it clearly on the passenger side too...

Put it on you tube and give us the link. We could do with a laugh. :pound:

Also get someone to film from stationary as you drive past.

Guys
I'm not sure the mic on my camera is going to be sensitive enough to pick up the noise in question plus will the current stormy weather its a waste of time!
regards
