Hi all
i have been having problems with my auto box, I have had it looked at and had something called DrTranny added and was told that its on its way out, so I'm looking for either a new one, a refurb one or maybe getting mine repaired/refurb, anybody got recommendations for either of those options.
Many Thanks
Steve

What is wrong with it? Most places that get a chance of getting money from you will tell you anything. Are you absolutely sure it’s imminently going to fail?

Dr Tranny is designed to help with TC clutch shudder, and it shouldn't really be used in a gearbox that isn't suffering from that issue.
So what is wrong with the box, and what isn't it doing?
Also has it had fluid changes, and what mileage is on it?

If you think about it every gearbox in the world is at some stage of “on its way out” because nothing lasts for ever. My last FL2 had clutch shudder but it didn’t get any worse over 4 years so if it’s not causing you a problem I would see how it goes. Make sure you keep your services up to date and don’t skip any oil changes.

Sorry for the late reply, the problem is that its revving higher between gear changes in Auto mode and the same in manual but not so much, it pulls away with no problems and the MPG has dropped to around 28-29 from 32, not much but a definate drop. its done 124,500 and had a fluid change at 100,000 and had that Dr Tranny not long ago

Do you mean the engine speeds up as it changes gears? If so, it's known a flaring, and is a sign of low fluid pressure, or worn clutches inside the box. Or if its simply allowing the engine to run faster than it should, it suggests an issue with the TC clutch, or it's lock up system.

What was the reason for using Dr Tranny?

It takes longer to change gear in auto…what used to be changing for example 3-4 it would get to 2000rpm when it used to be around 1500…the garage JSF just said it was on the way out but could treat it with that stuff…it worked but only for about 4 weeks

It sounds like there an issue with the box, but using Dr Tranny in a box that doesn't have TC clutch shudder is the wrong treatment.

Really it needs the codes and live data to be read, and any remedial action taken, based on those diagnostic results.

A box failure at 120k is uncommon, but unfortunately the stupidly long fluid change intervals do shorten box life. A 50k fluid change would be much more sensible, but unfortunately that's not the case.

Thanks, I

will get it booked into a gearbox specialist somewhere in Norwich, when I ca get the time off work.

The recommended fluid change interval for the FL2 auto gearbox by seasoned FL2 owners is 50k miles.
