Freelander 2 severe noise when starting..

Hi, I've had a 2012 Freelander 2 since 2015. On 3 separate occasions (all with a warm engine) for no reason that I can see I push the start button and although the engine starts I have to quickly turn it off.
It sounds as if the engine is firing out of sync with and is quite loud! It doesn't shake the car but it sounds like a tank. Once I stop it and re start it's fine. It's done about 35k... anyone have any thoughts what might be causing this??

Just occasionally sensors and ecu s don't talk the same language, happens on all manner of engines with electronic control units

It's certainly not good, could be down to faulty injector, wiring harness( dodgy connection) water ingress( in harness), dodgy sensor, spike in the electrics during starting, the list is endless,
When you hear a 9 or 15 litre engine start in this way, it sounds explosive, but that's not helping your problem

Thanks for the info, none of the above sounds cheap to put right always assuming the fault can be found! Time to get rid I think...
