hi my freelander2 hse drove great until the frost last night went to start it no dashboard illumination ,and when you press the start ,just a click noise ,tried replacing the battery ,still no illumination or start ,my hazards flash and i here a long bleep from in the car ,and my interior lights wont go out ,i have had to disconnect the battery for now ,any help would be much appreciated ,i had green flag out who was useless ,just said he didnt know what the problem was thanks

What year is it?
What is the click you mention - the start button clicking or something else?
Does the remote lock, unlock and alarm the vehicle?
Will the front windows go up/down?
Windscreen wipers work?

Need to work out if its just the start button or if its not powering itself up. What about if you hold the start button down for a while. Does it make contact at some point and switch on?

,holding the start button does nothing ,stereo and main satnav screen go off and on ,it clicks by the passenger fusebox ,the remote does lock and unlock the car ,the windows are working ,and the wipers ,no dash illumination and my internal lights and number plate lights are all stayin on ,i have had to remove the battery lead to stop it draining thanks

its a 2007mode

Is the steering lock on?

Is the steering lock on?
hi yes and when i put the key in its not releasing thanks

Try turning the steering wheel to release the pressure a bit. It could be the steering lock not releasing if it is still on, when going through the usual start process.

I assume the fob pushes into the dash ok?

Sometimes the steering lock fails to release. A number of FL2 owners have tapped them while turning the steering wheel a bit to release tension off the dead stop feeling, in the hope the tap helps release it.

It would help if you had a diagnostic tool you could plug in to get any fault codes. Did green flag try that?

I have tried releasing the lock ,but it’s not releasing ,I do have a code reader ,I will see if anything comes off it

I have tried the code reader .its not connecting to the engine management ,the steering lock won’t release, the wipers work only when you first push the button ,once you try to start with the clutch down they go off also the hazards keep coming on ,it’s mad as it all worked fine yesterday ,

It sounds like the starter to me, also do you have the extra earth strap fitted to your car from the battery to a bolt on the starter it's self, what size battery are you using ? a few photo's of the extra earth lead below.

Sometimes it can be the contacts in the starter, this time of year finds the weak points of any car.

Have a read through this.

Does the dash illuminate if yer don't put yer foot on the clutch, so it powers up but doesn't try to start the engine?

On mine the odbii diagnostic port won't do anything unless the dash is powered.

We need to work out why the dask won't power. Did the green flag check fuses under the bonnet in the plastic box and in the passenger foot well under the glove box?
