Hello all,

I just joined this forum and this is my first post.

I am not yet a Land Rover owner but ordered a new Freelander 2 about 1 month ago. Last week, my dealer called to tell me he still did not have a confirmation about my vehicle on the production line. The reason he told me was that my order came just when Land Rover is changing the current version to a new one (Mark V). I also went to the on-line configurator and it is no longer available for the Freelander 2, so it somewhat confirms his sayings.

Does anyone know anything about this new Freelander version?

I am really looking forward to get my new vehicle and I'd like to know what will be different in this new version.

Thank you

Its to do with the Evoque launch.

The Evoque and the Freelander 2 share ALOT of parts and most of the changes to the Freelander 2 are coming because of parts homogenisation.

Also they are stealing your Freelander 2 parts to help output more Evoques as they are so far behind on production.

On the upside, there is a wait for all 12MY cars from Land Rover at the minute, so your not alone, but i dont know what the exact changes are sorry .

Hopefully they will have fixed the engine and rear diff problems with the L359.

Now if they were to revert to the TD4 BMW 47R engine from the facelifted L315

or even better the M47TUD20

or even more betterer the latest N47 D20 (204 BHP)

rather than the PSA/Ford one ................... then I'd have one.

Oh - and WELCOME!!!!

Why? Am I looking for troubles buying the current model?

their changing it to look like the new evoque. lol.
I hope not. The Evoque looks like a German SUV. I want a Land Rover, not a futuristic Concept :(

I think its so funny that LANDROVER actually let victoria beckham help with the design although she might actually appeal to the tratter guys as she does resemble a pig. lol

I really like the BMW M47R - it's a great engine and has been truly tried and tested in various applications - Rover75 - MG ZT - + several others including even some VW models I'm told. Mechanics (including me) all over Europe are very familiar with it and it's very, very reliable.

As for what you have ordered.......

Try a google search for Freelander 2 engine probs or diff probs or g/box probs.

Have a chat with a mechanic at a LR dealership - not a salesman or the workshop foreman. Speak to one with dirt under the fingernails - they'll tell you what is being replaced under warranty etc.

I was going to get one until I had a long talk with some of the mechanics when I was in my local LR Parts Dept. at tea-break time.

I decided to hang on to the TD4 I have and just keep running it. So far I've been lucky with only little things other than the usual routine service items.

I think the new Td4 is an excellent engine.

I'll agree on the diff issue although the modified pinion bearings and races seem to fix this issue.

Controversial Opinion : FL2 has probably been the most reliable vehicle at launch, that LR has ever had! /queue hate.

Anything taken from the Evoque and put onto the FL will be a downgrade i think.

The early FL2 had steering isuues - usually ended up changing the reservior, pump and rack. Some have had diff issues - pinion bearing failure. Latest ones are having fun with the DPF (diesel particulate filter) which needs a blast down the motorway occasionally to regenerate. Manuals have dual mass flywheel, which can be expensive if you abuse the clutch offroad/towing.
All in all 60k miles in mine and the only fault was the steering which was replaced under warranty - far more reliable than my old FL1.

not allowed to....part of tata's sale agreement with ford to carry on taking engines from them, coming to an end soon when jlr will be making own engines again and not held to ransome by ford dictating how many engines they can have....
